Welcome friends to the New Worm Order. Spring has officially sprung, sightings of the glorious life giving sun has recharged our batteries, the worms winter coat is packed away, as are ours, and we are feeling renewed for the beginning of the new season ahead. It has been a long, tough and challenging winter, which is now safely behind us!

To celebrate Earth Day this year we are excited to be heading back to our favourite community garden Feel Good Gardens nestled on the edge of Sherwood Pines. And what Earth Day would be complete without the inclusion of the worms; makers of the Earth! Mark Saturday 25th April 11am-3pm in your diary for a family day out, soak up the clean air, pick yourself up some plants, and hear all about the humble but mighty worm.

Our Friends In The South
|
|
One of the best bits about the worms (and there are many) is the principled people that come into our lives that share the philosophy that to nurture our soil is to nurture humanity. And when they come to visit it is always a welcomed occasion, with plenty of putting the world, and worms to right! Roma and Steve signed up to our 1000 Worm Farmers project back in 2022, and since then they have been championing the worms in Gosport, and they have even travelled up and attended a workshop at HQ, as well as having us deliver a community Train the Trainer session in Gosport.

Before her recent retirement, Roma signed Bridgemary Library up as one of our 1000, and the worms are still thriving today. Roma is a powerful force advocating for the worms down south, delivering her own educational session and sharing her worms with her community to get them on their journey. Before their recent visit, Roma mailed us to let us know how the project had inspired her to encourage new worm farmers:

I enjoy harvesting compost from my worm farms at home and at Bridgemary Library garden in Gosport and when I do, I always take the opportunity to introduce someone new to the worm farming community by donating some of my worms to get them started with a worm farm of their own. It is always so helpful to be able to direct them to the videos and information on the Urban Worm Farm website!

Human Powered
|
If you picked up last months New Worm Order News you will know that this month we will be starting the Compost Masters programme in partnership with Pulp Friction, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Pulp Friction are famous for their pedal powered smoothie bike, and we’re pretty excited to be giving Electric Pedals a ride for sieving the compost. It does need an electrical tweek, but our friends at The Shed are on the case (thank you Chris) . We are going to have a lot of fun on the farm this summer!
