Dear Friends
Welcome to The Urban Worm newsletter, and thank you so much for joining us, for believing in the humble but mighty worm!

Congratulations on making it with us through the grey, grey winter. After a fall (for our American friends, and falling feels fitting) must come a spring, and the sun has come out a few times recently to get us ready to come back to life. Here’s to green shoots, and blue skies!

Worm Fest!
The workshop season has begun and we are happy to be back spreading the joy! Last month we delivered a session for The Flower Pod Southwell, and The Flower Pod Newark, and we had THE best time. Both sites are absolute oases with a wonderful staff support team. Participants embraced the worms and some super fans were born! A huge thank you to Newark & Sherwood District Council for supporting these sessions.

Microbes of Defense
It’s that time of year again! Harvesting the fruits of the worm farm is possibly the most satisfying gardening task of them all, one which puts you in a strong position for a bumper crop ahead. Last month we harvested the worm farms at RAF Waddington, with a healthy 80 kilos headed for the community garden onsite, and an impressive 200 kilos from Stanford Hall DMRC which is put to use by High Ground, the horticultural therapy charity based onsite. The most efficient use of worm manure is to make a good old brew, and if you have an aerating pump even the better. To give some context to how far the worm manure can stretch 20 Kilos is enough for a 1000L brew, and 100L of worm tea will feed just over an acre for a soil drench, and 50L of a foliar spray per acre.

Spectacular Spring Sale
We’ve got a very, very special offer for friends of New Worm Order News this month. Believe it or not we are offering 50% off Magic Manure to help you get ready for Spring. The catch is we need to get rid of some old packaging stock due to weather ware (its chilly in the workshop) as the seals are not up to what they used to be. Bags may come with a staple to shut them, but apart from that the product is perfecto! Use the discount code perfecto-50 in the Urban Worm shop to get some lovely vermicompost in for the spring. Offer lasts all month, or until the old bags sell out.

Meet The Team
If we say so ourselves, we have a great little team here at The Urban Worm, and like our vermi-friends, although we are small we have a lot of heart. This month we want to introduce you to our amazing Worm Care Taker Joanna Olivia Eardwardsly who has been with us for over two wonderful years.
If you have ever purchased a worm farm from us the likelihood is Joanna lovingly harvested the worms for you. We are grateful to have her on the team, the worms love her too, she ensures all their vital needs, are met, and some.
There is never a dull moment with Joanna around, and she has been on some serious worm adventures with us from Scotland to Birmingham, plus she keeps us in a bountiful supply of water kefir, we call her the Kefir Queen, and our gut health has never been so good. For Joanna “being a worm farmer is my AI-free zone, where nature leads the way. In a fast-paced world, composting organic waste with worms provides me a grounding, sustainable process where nothing goes to waste and that feels really good for me and doing my bit for the planet”.

Here's Reece from Subway, who really appreciates his new waste managers at their branch on RAF Waddington.

Worms On Tour
Next month is a biggie for worm workshops in Newark & Sherwood. We’ve got three days booked in for the 8th, 10th, and 16th April courtesy of Newark & Sherwood District Council who have supported these sessions through a community grant. We will be making 135 worm farms over the 3 days. It’s basically a worm festival! If you are interested in signing up to one of the days drop us line and we will get you on the list.
And if it couldn’t get any more wormiful we’re delivering a session for Urban & Civic at Middlebeck on the 9th April.
Creating foundational change starts with education and the district is becoming very well versed in all things worms- totally winning.

May the sun shine on you all and we look forward to sharing our adventures with you next month - its going to be a big one so stick around to find out!
